The Hermit · Card Meaning

The Hermit tarot card

He carries a small lantern up the mountain alone. The light is faint — only enough for the next step — but that’s enough.

Upright keywords: Solitude · Looking inward · Wisdom · Guidance · Settling

Reversed keywords: Isolation · Avoidance · Shutting down too much · Refusing help

Upright

The Hermit leaves the crowd and walks into the mountains alone — not out of bitterness, but because some voices can only be heard in the quiet. This card invites you to step back: switch off the noise of the world, and spend a while alone with yourself. That lantern you carry can’t light the whole mountain, but it can light the next step under your feet. Take that step.

Reversed

Solitude has turned into hiding. The reversed Hermit may have shut himself away too long, even pushing away the hand he should have taken. Withdrawing is meant for coming back, not for disappearing. When it’s time to come down the mountain, remember to come down.

This card in love

You may need a little space, or a season of reflection. Get clear with yourself first, so the relationship doesn’t become mutual draining.

What the card shows

He stands on a peak, and the lamp he is holding out contains a single star. He is not reading by it — he is holding it out for whoever is still climbing. The staff is the mountain he already crossed, cut down to something he can lean on. Everything around him is grey, quiet, and cold, and he does not look unhappy about it.

Work & money

A period of working alone, going deep, or stepping back from a team to think. Research, review, expertise. Not the card for networking. If you are being asked to decide something big, this one says the answer comes from your own accumulated experience, not from another meeting.

How someone sees you

They see you as someone who knows things — a little apart, and worth going to when it matters. People treat you as a source. Some of them assume solitude means you do not want to be asked, and so they never ask.

Yes or no?

Not now. Take the time first; the yes is on the other side of it.

The advice

Cancel one thing and spend the hour alone with the question. Do not fill the silence with a podcast.
